I’ve played guitar for over 30 years. Self taught, starting at age 12, my approach has always been to treat the fretboard like a canvas primed to receive paint in an abstract expressionist style. Created with intuition and imagination. Always improvised, experimental yet melodic.
I come from a family of guitarists. My father (who taught himself music theory) and older brother (actually took years of lessons), all three of us left handed while playing the right handed way. Aside from learning from my mistakes, I learned deeply and sincerely from the following sources:
- Zen Guitar by Philip Toshio Sudo
- The Guitar Circle by Robert Fripp
- My father and brother
- This article…
True thanks to David Cherubim for writing this piece. A real inspiration. Thanks to my brother for sharing his knowledge. And a special thank you to my father who since passed. Thank you for the music, dad! May you play your tele with the angels!
Stay Attuned
